Today's workplace is changing. The baby boomer generation is edging retirement and making way for fresh-faced talent. The difference is, as generations change, so does the expectations of these young career seekers. Gen Y and Z talent no longer have the typical nine-to-five atop their lists, but rather are looking for valuable work, flexibility, and perks.

According to a recent survey conducted by yconic., thought leader for millennials, 69 per cent of youth participants listed flexible scheduling as a key factor in attracting and retaining talent, and 68 per cent were looking for interesting and challenging work.

Compensation still tops the list, with 71 per cent saying salary is a huge contributor to the decision-making process. A more novel consideration includes employee perks'a stocked kitchen, gym memberships, and employee discounts'at 44 per cent.

As a whole, there's no question that Gen Y and Z job seekers are looking for stability in their future careers, especially with today's rising student debt and the unpredictable job market. As a result, the top three industries participants were most interested in were government, teaching and training, and professional services.

As the workplace continues to evolve, and more and more youth enter the market, who knows what'll top the list next?
