The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is a First Nation Education Authority serving the three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan; Black Lake First Nation, Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Fond Du Lac First Nation. The Authority serves a total student population of approximately 1,300+ students. The Authority is working toward improved educational outcomes by utilizing the latest technology, progressively piloting programs, and integrating Denesuline culture into the classroom and school curriculum.The Position

Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority has a contract opening for a Nutritionist for the 2024-2025 school year. This position will work as a resource to the development of strong comprehensive school-based nutrition interventions with emphasis on Canadas Food Guide Healthy Eating in Schools and other initiatives that support the whole child. All programming will be rooted in the Denesuline Land-based Culture & Language.

DutiesResearch & evaluate existing practices in each of the ADEA four schools

Develop and lead creative, innovative projects and teams to promote the ADEA Nutrition/Food Programs

Create a plan for Nutrition Education Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12

Audit required resources for School Programs

Build partnerships and secure grants for sustained funding in nutrition and food security.

The Deliverables

With the development of strong, comprehensive school-based nutrition intervention programs, the deliverables shall be as follows but not limited to:

Develop the necessary procedures, programming, equipment, and food to feed all students daily,

Provide quality classroom nutrition instruction & resources for classroom teachers

Offer hands-on practical experiences to students with a focus on healthy choices

Promote the use of Canadas Food Guide Healthy Eating in Schools, which will contribute healthier food choices and decreased nutrition-related chronic diseases.

Selection Standards

The Contractor is under the general direction of the Director of Education of ADEA and must possess some of the requirements listed below:Registered with or eligible to register with the Saskatchewan College of Dieticians would be considered an asset

Have significant education and experience in program delivering for School Nutrition/Food Programs

Have significant experience in professional development in Nutrition; and

Have a strong desire to support the schools and the staff working with children in the communities of Black Lake, Fond du Lac, and Hatchet Lake.
