With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking a full-time Data Scientist within the Research & Analytics department.

Key Accountabilities

Reporting to and under the direction of the Head of Research & Analytics, the primary purpose of this position is to lead the TCDSB in revisioning and transforming approaches to analyzing and communicating information derived from data by Act as the technical expert in the field of data mining, statistical modelling, design, development, visualization and automation applied to complex educational and business data

Provide expertise and coordination for planning, developing, implementing data visualizations, models or simulations

Lead continual improvement processes for analytical products including content management, and data governance

Develop and prepare independent or collaborative reports and papers on the application of different data analytic methods, processes, and visualizations

Provide interpretation, advice, and expertise of data solutions to client groups and other stakeholders

Use statistics and data visualization methods to tell interactive data stories for educational and business staff

Use R and or Python and SQL to extract clean and analyze data; Use PowerBI to present insights for the organization

Supervise and provide leadership support to the Senior Research Technician

Build beautiful and engaging data stories

Other duties as assigned or requiredRequirements Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum of four (4) years' experience in an analytics role preferably with an educational focus

Demonstrated experience with descriptive and advanced inferential statistical analysis

Demonstrated experience with automation and interactive data visualizations

Experience solving real world business and product problems using modelling

Experience using R, Python or SQL

Experience with data visualization tools or packages (e.g., PowerBI, R Shiny)

Experience with developing a Data Strategy, Data Governance Plans or Data Marketplace would be an asset

Excellent communication skills with the ability to synthesize and explain complex problems to diverse audiences

Superior oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by success in engaging, understanding and supporting data users, including proven presentation and public-speaking abilitiesThis is a non-union Level 8 position with a salary range of $ 91,862 - $109,142 along with comprehensive benefits including pension plan, vacation, and professional development opportunities.
