THE OPPORTUNITY: AI & CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST
In the role of Cybersecurity & AI Specialist within the Learning and Information Technology Division, you will be responsible for protecting the integrity and availability of Districts cybersecurity and artificial intelligence initiatives. As the Cybersecurity & AI Specialist, you will also be tasked to implement tools, establish and configure business rules, processes, and procedures pertaining to Cybersecurity, as well as the monitoring and managing of security incidents to minimize the risk to the District from data being damaged or compromised or from the inappropriate use of the Districts computing devices. Collaborating closely with District and LIT leaders, business and education departments, you will be instrumental in integrating AI into District services and overseeing cybersecurity to safeguard the Districts data. This role is vital in ensuring seamless integration, optimal performance, and promoting digital literacy in compliance with privacy and security standards.
The scope of the initiative is District wide and encompasses protection of networks, systems, equipment and data from attack, damage or unauthorized access.
Specific Responsibilities: Manage complex projects in collaboration with educational and technical staff to integrate AI and Cybersecurity.
Develop AI systems with built-in privacy controls and security measures.
Plan, lead and execute risk assessments to determine the security posture of the districts data and infrastructure from existing district systems and those being considered for purchase or implementation. Make recommendations based on best practices and in context of the risk to the Districts and its operational environment.
Plan, implement, maintain and monitor IT security controls for all digital assets and processes (network, endpoint, server, application, etc), including but not limited to:
Implement machine learning models to automate processes and enhance predictive analytics.
Establish security plans, incident response, security awareness in collaboration with Leadership Team.
Participates in the development and maintenance of Internal Security Policy and Cyber Security Policies
Lead security and technology teams.
Assist in trouble shooting security related network issues with the network support team.
Identifies and investigates computer security incidents and inappropriate use of district computing devices.
Establish standards and procedures and write documentation.
Remains current with developments in Cybersecurity and recommends new approaches and application of new technology which will assist the District to meet business objectives.
Address privacy concerns and ensure compliance in technology security solutions.
Delivers presentations and educational security awareness framework for District staff; business and technical; including multi-channel approaches.
Other duties/responsibilities as assigned. Key Contacts and Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Director, Information Technology. This role works with LIT and leads staff and projects. Collaborates with external vendors, supporting the secure implementation and delivery of cybersecurity services.
QUALIFICATIONS University or College Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or other related field.
A security certification is highly desirable ( CISSP, CCSP, GIAC, CISM).
Experience with AI or machine learning.
7+ years experience of leading technology teams and implementing technology change.
Advanced Knowledge of Office 365 technologies, and Microsoft data solutions.
Experience in supporting a Cybersecurity, or information security operational program.
Experience in system and network incident response practices and procedures .
Experience with security tools, vulnerability assessments, incident response.
Experience managing large scale complex projects.
Experienced in presenting to different audiences in person or online.
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a technical team of individuals to find ways to ensure secure delivery of technology services.
Demonstrated operational and project management skills: planning, coordination, organization, and problem-solving skills; results-focused, team-oriented .
Ability to prepare reports on risk assessment results, product recommendations and computer forensic analysis.
Ability to handle confidential and/or sensitive information with a high degree of discretion and impartially.
Ability to deal with changing and competing deadlines.
Ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
Excellent oral, written and presentation/facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate at technical and non-technical levels while working with projects and teams within the district. COMPENSATION
The salary for this position is $103,905 - $122,241 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including, Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, Vacation, Gratuity, and potential Compensatory time.
This position is 100% in-person/in-office at the VSB Education Centre (1580 West Broadway)
