Personality and aptitude for working with students
Description:
Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, repairs and maintains all School District buses; vehicles and equipment; and performs as a bus driver as needed. Be responsible for the day-to-day routine of the mechanics' shop.
Duties:
1. Diagnose problems, repair and perform general maintenance of all buses, equipment and vehicles including adjustment of engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and clutches on gas and diesel equipment; tune up engines, ignitions parts, clean and adjust carburetors; perform minor body repair; respond to breakdowns.
2. Perform preventative maintenance and make inspections of buses for proper working order and safe operation.
3. Order, stock and inventory parts and supplies as needed.
4. Maintain and keep current an inventory and accountability of parts, tools, supplies and equipment.
5. Use department funds in an economically responsible manner.
6. Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate.
7. Ensure shop organization, cleanliness and safety.
8. Make recommendations on equipment replacement.
9. Drive any bus route that may be required as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
Qualifications:
1. Automotive or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certification
2. Commercial Transport Mechanic Certification
3. Commercial Inspection Certification
4. High school diploma
5. Work Hazardous Materials Information Certification (WHIMIS)
6. Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certification
7. Minimum of one year related experience at the journeyman level.
8. Physical capability to perform the job duties
9. Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
10. Valid B.C. Class 2 driver's license with an Air Brake Endorsement
11. Possess good computer skills

The starting hourly rate of pay for this Mechanic's position is $36.78 per hour. All continuing positions receive a competitive benefits package and pension.
