Job Summary & Responsibilities

Mountain Elementary is a vibrant K-5 school nestled in picturesque Mountain Village on Sumas Mountain. The staff, students and families have established this elementary school as a school of excellence. Mountain Elementary is a safe school, with high behavioral expectations and standards. Students are actively taught appropriate social skills and they are reinforced through the use of school wide behavior support systems.

* This opportunity is a temporary UFN contract, which is subject to change or cancel before June 28, 2024. In the event the teacher returns to work (work-hardening, part-time, full-time) before the end of the school year, the duration and/or FTE of this temporary assignment will be amended. The successful applicant must accept the reduced work week (amended to a part-time contract) but will have the option to remain in a temporary 1.0 FTE contract by working as a Priority TTOC on other days until June 28, 2024.

The starting annual salary for this full-time Elementary School Teacher position ranges from $60,626 to $106,217, with placement on the July 1, 2023 Teacher Salary Grid based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

Education & Experience Elementary teacher training with major practicum/work experience at the Primary and/or Intermediate levels Successful teaching experience at the Primary and Intermediate levels Eligible for B.C. Certification Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of the Primary and Intermediate program Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge and recent experience with a balanced literacy program Teaching Competencies

All teachers are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of others in a tactful, compassionate and respectful manner.

Organization & Planning: Ability to plan and organize for effective instruction, differentiation and assessment
