The Human Resources Officer is responsible for providing consulting and administrative services related to staffing, compensation and benefits administration, human resources information system (HRIS) administration and employee relations. Other responsibilities include: developing, administering and coordinating annual staffing processes, assisting Principals and Managers with the hiring process and evaluating employee documentation in accordance with the Collective Agreement.QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Education and/or Certification(s)
Minimum of a University Degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration. Must hold or be working towards Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) Designation.
Years of Experience
Minimum of 2-3 years. SKILLS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: Human Resources field and related legislation, processes and procedures.
Collective Agreements.Competencies: Ability to prepare documents and access databases (e.g. posting tool)
Ability to use a computer to perform analysis (e.g. calculation and roll over of annual sick leave and vacation entitlements)
Ability to write text that is complex and, at times, sensitive in nature (e.g. annual staffing processes)
BRIEF LIST OF DUTIES: Provides support to Principals/Managers. This includes Collective Agreement (CA) interpretation, posting vacancies, reviewing postings to advise Principals/Managers who to consider in accordance with the CA, reviewing and approving Principal/Manager recommendation for hire.
Responds to employee inquiries including questions regarding issues such as benefits, pay, posting, the Collective Agreement, and attendance.
Performs payroll preparation which includes the collection of new hire employee information, changes in staffing, pay, benefits for input into the HRIS. This also involves communicating with the hiring manager, calculating the appropriate salary rate, determining benefits eligibility, calculating sick days, and communicating this information to the HRA (Human Resources Assistant) for input into the HRIS.
Performs the administration of daily staffing and hiring which includes posting vacancies, reviewing closed postings, determining successful candidates, maintaining electronic posting database for postings (why posted, who was successful, replacing), and reviewing/approving leaves of absence.
Participates in annual year rollover which includes activities such as payroll increases, identification of red-circled staff, and providing information to be inputted on HRIS.
Perform activities such speaking on behalf of employees, coaching, collaborating, interviewing, communicating straightforward and complex information, listening, resolving conflicts, moderating, negotiating and presenting.
Occasional travel to meetings outside of the Board Office.The successful incumbent may have an opportunity to participate in a hybrid work arrangement (e.g. a balance of in office and remote.)
