St. Thomas More Collegiate, a progressive Blessed Edmund Rice Christian Brother Catholic Independent high school in Burnaby, B.C., is seeking an experienced secondary school educator to join our English department. The successful candidate will be expected to be part of a collaborative teaching team within our English department. The full teaching load to be determined based on the successful candidates experience as well as in consultation with the English Head of Department.
STMCs English courses are designed to help students develop into imaginative thinkers, powerful analysts, cogent writers, and informed citizens. By promoting fine writing, keen powers of analysis, and a true love of speaking, we allow students to explore the world of literature through their own experiences.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous secondary English teaching experience, and a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Potential candidates must be a member, or be in the process of becoming a member, of the British Columbia College of Teachers or hold a BC Independent School Teachers Certificate. Letters of application, accompanied by a resume, and the names of two referees, should be received in a timely manner.

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications, experiences and abilities:
Must hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate or letter of permission
Ideally hold an undergraduate degree with a focus in English or a bachelors of Education in English.
Be familiar with the BC Curriculum in English studies
Experience teaching various grade level English Language Arts courses
Excellent English written, communication and presentation skills
Understand and demonstrate the need for culturally responsive teaching and learning
Use engaging technology to enhance learning
Select instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs
Work collaboratively with colleagues to build and foster educational growth
Create a classroom environment that promotes mutual respect and security to take personal educational risks
Foster supportive relationships with students and families
Implement a range of authentic learning assessments that provide timely feedback to students and a clear direction for parents
Be familiar with the BC Curriculums use and implementation of proficiency scales
Maintain accurate, ongoing and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching, learning and reporting
Maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, students and parents
Certificate of Qualification from the Teacher Regulation Branch
Be willing to contribute to the co-curricular and cultural life of the school and model the values espoused by Blessed Edmund Rice as articulated in the Essential Elements of an Edmund Rice Christian Brother Education
