MECHANIC

Position Description:There is a position available for a Mechanic in the Transportation Department for School District #60. Applications must be completed online and will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.

Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor and Transportation Working Lead, this position is responsible for maintaining the School District vehicle fleet including school buses, motorized and non-motorized maintenance vehicles, as well as compressors, light plants and grounds equipment.

Hours of work: Eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days/week

Duties to Commence: As soon as possible after closing

Work Year Base: Twelve (12) months per year

Commencing Salary : $42.79/hr.

Duties: Carries out duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

Performs mechanical and electronic diagnoses and repairs on vehicles and equipment.

Performs safety checks and road tests vehicles.

Keeps a clean and well maintained workplace at all times.

Fills out work orders as required.

May be called upon to act as lead hand in the absence of the Working Foreman - Transportation.

Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment and vehicles are operated according to set standards.

Ensure the safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and the safe use and operation of equipment and hand tools.

Informs the Supervisor(s) and/or Administrative Officer of vandalized equipment or property.

Performs other job related duties as directed by the Transportation Supervisor.

Qualifications and Attributes:

Inter provincial Red Seal Certified Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport Mechanic

Knowledge of computerized diagnostic equipment

Minimum Class 5 driver's licence with air brakes endorsement

Acceptable Driver's abstract

Vehicle inspectors certificate would be an asset

WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period

Other applicable safety training and/or certifications as provided by the District to be completed as needed

Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team
