This includes various tasks such as laying drains, installing catch basins, maintaining irrigation systems, clearing storm drains, and installing playground equipment. Additionally, they build and repair fencing and retaining walls, prune trees and shrubs, and prepare grass areas through fertilization and seeding.

Operating a range of equipment, from lawn mowers to jackhammers, falls under their duties, as does assisting tradesmen and responding to emergencies. Ensuring the safety and cleanliness of outdoor spaces is paramount in their role, making regular inspections and performing assigned duties efficiently and effectively.

POSTING DETAILS Position - Groundskeeper

Start Date - As soon as possible (flexible)

Employment - Permanent, Full-time (40 hrs/wk)

Hours - Monday to Friday (7:30am to 4:00pm)DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Lays drains, and installs catch basins.

Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems.

Clears storm drains and catch basins.

Installs and repairs playground equipment.

Builds and repairs various types of fencing and retaining walls.

Prunes, falls and cuts up shrubs, trees, bushes.

Prepares, fertilizes and seeds/turfs grass areas.

Sets out pathways and planters, using materials such as concrete, concrete blocks, timber ties, asphalt and gravel materials.

Operates and does basic maintenance of equipment such as a jackhammer and concrete drill, lawn mowers, chainsaws, riding mowers and tractors under 30 h.p.

Assist tradesmen with duties specific to the trade, under the direction of the Tradesman, as required.

Checks grassed areas for rocks, bottles, etc. before cutting.

Operates tools and equipment of the trade.

Respond to emergency situations as requested.

Inspects (daily) and operates a service vehicle.

Performs other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this class specification.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Completion of Grade 10 (minimum).

One year experience.

B.C. Driver's License.

Completion of 3 related courses including basic Horticultural courses such as turf management or pruning; basic welding or small machine maintenance.

Knowledge of the materials and methods used in related trades.

Ability to operate in a safe and efficient manner a variety of hand and riding mowers, light trucks and trailers, and tractors under 30 h.p. with related grounds equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy and tact in the explanation and exchange of information.

Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.
