The Middle School Music/Band Teacher will teach Band in grades 6-8. This middle school Music/Band Teacher will collaborate with the High School Music Teacher/Performing Arts Coordinator to build and maintain our comprehensive Music Education program, which includes: Concert Bands, Jazz Bands/Combos, Touring Ensembles, Pep Bands, Middle School Honour Band, Middle School Contemporary Music Bands (Worship Teams), as well as exploratory music modules (Music Tech, Popular Music Instruments/Percussion options, etc.). The position may involve some team teaching with the high school music teacher in ensemble classes.

Preparation and collaborative learning time so teachers can fully engage in the life of the schoolPARTICULAR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR MUSIC/ARTS COORDINATOR INCLUDE: Plan and prepare lessons that support the BC music curriculum and LCS as well as Music Department policies

Engage students with creative instruction so as to inspire a love and appreciation of music

Teach an ADST (Music Technology) module in Music Explorations

Offer extracurricular clubs such as Worship Club, Jazz Ensemble, and Honour Band

Proactively communicate and proactively collaborate with administration, staff, and parents

Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement, providing individualized feedback and written reports

Coordinate school performances for the community and LCS supporters

Plan experiential learning opportunities such as festival performances, music field trips, and a grade 8 band tripQUALIFICATIONS: BC Teaching Certification or Eligible for BC Teaching/B.C. Independent Schools Teaching Certification

Minimum Bachelors Degree in Music or a Major in Music Education

Strong skills in classroom management and meeting the needs of diverse learners

Ability to play brass and woodwind instruments proficiently

Understanding of percussion and drum pedagogy is an asset

Experience with organizing and leading community performances

Demonstrable knowledge of music curriculum and the ability to implement it with success

Ability to interact collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and administration

Professional oral and written communication skills

Confident in leading and inspiring a classroom of music students

Strong organizational and administrative skills

Able to thrive working in a team environment
