(Full-time Permanent) - 12-month work schedule
The IT Systems Analyst I reports directly to the Director of Technology and your primary role is to support and maintain the technological infrastructure that keeps our educational district running smoothly. You will collaborate with both the IT team and district users, ensuring effective daily operations, troubleshooting, system installations, and upgrades. You'll be key in maintaining efficiency in our technological ecosystem and providing top-notch service to end-users.

The Medicine Hat Public School Division is located within the boundaries of the city of Medicine Hat and serves just approximately 7,000 students. The Division is comprised of three high schools, four middle schools (including Christian education focus and a virtual online school), 14 elementary schools, (including a virtual online learning school, STEM centered learning school, arts centered learning school and a variety of alternative programs). People and Culture Work collaboratively with staff across the district, delivering high-quality support and fostering a culture of problem-solving and teamwork.
Build strong relationships with district staff to create a positive and supportive IT environment.Duties and Responsibilities Provide basic troubleshooting and maintenance for server environments.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot network and data communication software/hardware (e.g., email, office services).
Install, test, and troubleshoot network cabling systems.
Troubleshoot user issues related to software, hardware, and network configurations.
Monitor systems, perform data backups, and review reports/notifications.
Manage service tickets, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently.
Support technology upgrade projects and contribute to innovative IT solutions.
Maintain and troubleshoot security cameras, recording devices, physical access security systems, and telephony systems.
Support SharePoint sites, Teams, and wireless network systems.
Handle ad hoc IT tasks, assignments, and projects as needed.Optimization of Processes Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing input on effective technology use.
Stay up-to-date with best practices and suggest improvements for district-wide technology solutions.Safety and Compliance Conduct all IT-related activities in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety standards and regulations.Physical and Travel Demands This position may involve extended periods of sitting, crawling, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in varying conditions (e.g., heights, confined spaces).
Applicants must be able to operate small hand tools and perform physically demanding tasks as needed. A physical demands assessment will be required.
Occasional travel (25%) to different district locations for in-person IT support. You will also handle phone support in a high-pressure environment.REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Competencies Degree or diploma in a technology-related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
Knowledge/experience with the following technologies: Networking (VOIP, switching, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi).
Microsoft Server OS, Windows 10, Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, SQL Server, VMware.
Enterprise storage solutions (NetApp, NAS, SnapServer, cloud storage).
Backup technologies (on-premises and cloud-based).
Experience in a K-12 educational environment is an asset.
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required.General Competencies Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills.
Self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple high-priority tasks.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to handle ambiguity and have difficult conversations diplomatically.
