The Near North District School Board and the Canadian Ecology Centre are looking for teachers to be part of a unique in-residence high school summer credit course experience. Work and live at the Canadian Ecology Centre (located in Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park, Mattawa, ON) while teaching a 2-week in-person intensive and hands-on high school credit course. Your in-person classroom is the outdoors and all courses incorporate a team-teaching approach with a co-teacher. This is the ultimate opportunity to incorporate environmental and experiential education into curriculum: a once in a lifetime teaching experience.

NNDSB teaching contracts will be given priority to returning staff and/or teachers with extensive knowledge/experience/qualifications as required by the job description. Candidates who have also applied to the CEC posting may be offered a CEC teaching position as an alternative contract.
The successful candidate will be assigned to one of the following courses ( conditional upon student enrolment ):
2 week Session #1 CGC 1D Geography, Grade 9, Academic
SNC 2D Science, Grade 10, Academic
SBI 3U Biology, Grade 11, University
2 week Session #2 SB1 3U- Biology, Grade 11, University
SBI 4U Biology, Grade 12, University
SES 4U Earth & Space, Grade 12, University The successful candidate will possess and adhere to the following as part of employment: A valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate
Current (within 6 months) VCRC screening
Qualifications as required in the Intermediate/Senior DivisionsAs a condition of employment candidates must: Possess Current Standard First Aid and CPR
Attend a MANDATORY in person teacher training session on Saturday, May 18th to Sunday, May 18th, 2024 (Victoria Day Weekend) held at the CEC.
Take part in teleconference training session(s) hosted by the CEC prior to start of contract period.
Candidates are required to stay and live on-site for the entire duration of the session including the mandatory prep days before the course for pre-administration and course preparations duties.
Candidates are required to pay a $700 Meal Fee to the Canadian Ecology Centre at the start of the contract period
Preference will be given to candidates with: Experiential and/or outdoor education teaching experience
Successful experience in working extensively and intensively in a team-teaching environment
Additional certifications related to outdoor education
