Food Program Aide I

Norgate Elementary SchoolThis is a CUPE Union position and is 4 hours per week - Tuesday/Thursday - 9am-11am School Term; commencing immediately to June 28, 2024

THE ROLE

This work involves the distribution of the prepared food program and the supervision of elementary students during meal time and entailing responsibility for maintaining order while the meal program is operating. In addition, this employee does the general clerical work for the meal program. Work performance is checked and reviewed by an administrator for effectiveness of provision of services rendered to staff and students and for adherence to detailed instructions.

WHAT WE REQUIRE Working knowledge of basic food preparation and serving as it relates to the meal program.

Working knowledge of methods and procedures in controlling and regulating behaviour of students. Working knowledge of the rules and regulations governing general school operations.

Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Ability to maintain order and safety of students using behaviour management and conflict resolution techniques.

Ability to perform general clerical tasks.

Ability to administer basic first aid.

Ability to maintain effective relationships with students, staff and parents in supplying assistance and information.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Sufficient strength and agility to perform the lifting tasks.

Food Safe Course.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Completion of the 11th grade or equivalent, plus basic first aid. Completion of the Food Safe Course. Six months experience related to working with children, and in food preparation and handling.

The current rate of pay for this position is $26.76 per hour.

All candidates are required to submit to a BC Ministry Criminal Record Check and a local Police Criminal Record Check as condition of employment.
