Main Responsibilities:

The Financial Analyst will be a key member of the finance team at the Board of Education and will provide support to the Finance department for all finance and administration functions for internal, external and Ministry reporting. This position reports to the Manager of Finance. Provide support and assist with planning and preparation of the Boards internal, external and Ministry reporting requirements.

Provide support and assist with the Boards budget process and preparation of related financial reports.

Complete financial and non-financial analysis to assist with Board planning and operational decision making including enrolment and staffing projections.

Supporting the planning, implementation and training of Board staff on any new system upgrades to financial, payroll and other related systems.

Audit, review and verify financial reports and transactions for monthly, quarterly and year end reporting periods to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards.

Prepare and post all necessary journal entries in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Standards.

Maintain the general ledger financial reporting structure in alignment with Ministry standards and Uniform Code of Accounts.

Audit, review and verify STSCO Transportation Consortium ridership for percentage cost sharing with other Boards.

Provide support to the Manager of Payroll Services with respect to pension administration, monthly remittances, self-funded leave plans, payroll and benefit clearing account reconciliation, preparation of annual tax documents and year-end procedures.

Plan, evaluate and improve the efficiency of business process and procedures related to financial services.

Plan and support the development of individual team members to effectively achieve goals.Supervision: Direct Supervision:

-Business Operations ClerkQualifications: Minimum three years of progressive work experience in a related accounting or finance environment (public sector environment is preferred). University degree in Business Administration and registered with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario working towards a CPA professional accounting designation.Specialized Skills Required: Expert knowledge of accounting concepts for Ontario school boards and comprehensive understanding of educational funding requirements would be considered an asset.
