Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy is seeking applications for

Full-time Teaching Positions (Gr 5 Gr 9)

The Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy (AZIA) is an independent elementary and middle school that is inspired by the doctrines and values of the Islamic faith and offers a broad and balanced program that is in line with BCs redesigned curriculum. It strives to nourish academic, ethical, and spiritual excellence in its students. AZIA strongly values its partnership with parents and the wider community.

AZIA is a Group 1 classification of Independent schools under the Ministry of Education guidelines. The school opened its doors for the first time in September 2003 and currently offers Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten to Grade 9 education. The school is located at the Az-Zahraa Islamic Center in Richmond BC, which includes a beautiful mosque, a large library, a playground, and a full-size gymnasium. We have a strong enthusiastic team of dedicated staff committed to the vision of the school and a supportive, devoted School Board.

We are inviting applications from caring and capable individuals who able to teach a broad spectrum of subjects at the Elementary and Middle School level. There will be consideration to retain for the 2024-2025 school year with a continuing contract. Our salary scale is 5% higher than the Richmond Public School pay scale.

Required qualifications include:

BC Professional Teacher Certification from the BC Teacher Regulation Office o

Willingness to support and facilitate the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the elementary school program through an ongoing collaboration with the School Board and the principal

Motivated to develop an environment that is conducive to teaching the doctrines, values, and practices of the faith

Knowledge of pedagogy including instructional strategies, theory of teaching literacy/numeracy and child development is essential

Knowledge of current curriculum trends including teaching early reading and numeracy

Interest in taking on extra-curricular activities

Desire to work collaboratively with an energetic and enthusiastic team

Experience with ESL / struggling students is an asset
