Hillcrest Elementary School This is a temporary appointment effective January 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. This assignment also includes 0.07 FTE remedy.

Music teachers in School District No. 83 are employees of the District Music Department and are assigned as needed within the district. Elementary Music teachers provide preparation time for their colleagues, so the exact size of assignments to schools may fluctuate in September depending upon enrolment.

Note that the remedy FTE is based on projection until the end of the school year and may vary. In the event the FTE needs to be adjusted, you will be advised accordingly and in a timely manner.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent;

Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch;

Orff levels, Kodaly levels or equivalent coursework. Teachers applying for this position should possess the following attributes: successful experience in Music instruction;

excellent classroom management skills;

evidence of excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills in working with staff, students and parents;

demonstrated ability to use a variety of current instructional strategies and assessment methods;

working knowledge of the renewed curriculum for the Fine Arts;

commitment to stimulating student interest and confidence in learning;

ability to teach ukulele, recorder, guitar, orff, dance and choir;

demonstrated ability to work collegially as part of a school staff;

comfortable planning and executing school-wide concerts and events;

ability to relate effectively to all elementary school students;

ability to promote support for a schools Music program;

successful recent experience working with students with special needs;
