The Parkland School Division currently has a Permanent Part-time (0.5 FTE) Caretaker II position available at Copperhaven School in Spruce Grove, Alberta. This position will be a morning shift from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM daily.

Function and Purpose of Position

A Caretaker II is a detailed-oriented individual who is focused on the cleanliness of the school/location including internal and external areas. Ensuring the premises are clean, tidy and prepared for the students, staff and general public is essential. Caretaker IIs may:

Reports to the Supervisor of Environmental Services

Works under the guidance of the Head Caretaker, where applicable.

Works independently and as part of the school community

Works with assigned duties by Principal on an as needed basisService Responsibilities

Completion of all custodial duties including the following:

Cleaning classrooms and hallways by wet- and dry-mopping. May use an auto-scrubber.

Disinfect desk tops and major touch points (door handles, light switches, etc.).

Empty trash, replace liner and wash container as needed.

Dust flat and vertical surfaces, clean glass and spot clean walls.

Removing and replacing furniture from classrooms in order to do cleaning.

Burnishing hallways and classrooms using a burnisher on a scheduled basis.

Stripping and scrubbing floors using swing buffing machine.

Recoating floors.

Vacuuming carpets.

Replacing lights as required.

Completing security checks on the buildings exterior doors and windows.

Sanitizing washrooms daily. Replacing soap and toilet tissue as required.

Placing garbage in dumpsters.

Removing snow from all perimeter sidewalks and entry areas using shovels, brooms or powered snow removal equipment.

De-icing walk areas as required.

Maintaining equipment in a clean, safe, operating condition.

Conducting perimeter checks to ensure the exterior building site and playground area are safe and vandal-free on a daily basis.

Attending to emergencies when necessary.

Attending safety meetings.

Performing other duties as assigned by the Head Caretaker.Additional seasonal cleaning and rotational duties include the following:

Cleaning out lockers, washing and disinfecting as required.

Cleaning windows inside and out.

Cleaning light fixtures and diffusers.

Scrubbing walls, cleaning grout for ceramic tile and ceilings in some areas.

Moving furniture to prepare for floor cleaning.

Stripping and recoating floors.

Burnishing and polishing floors.

Cleaning desks, inside and out.

Cleaning baseboards and the edge of floors.

Moving desks and tables for examination purposes at least twice per year.

Ability to work flexible hours/schedule during holiday periods and annual cleaning schedules.

Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment: vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, polishers, wet vacuums and other related equipment.

Ability to plan and prioritize work for self and seek help when needed.

Provide support when necessary to Head Caretaker to prepare for summer cleaning schedule.

Will also be responsible for snow removal in the winter.

Help with the relocation of furniture and equipment as requested by the Principal and Head Caretaker, as neededOccupational Health and Safety & Safe Work Practices

Knowledgeable in PSDs safety procedures and training to carry out the assigned duties safely

Report any near misses or accidents immediately to the Supervisor of Environmental Services

Able to identify any hazards involved in the assigned task, detail the controls that must be put in place and articulates the specific practices to be followed to minimize the possibility of accidents and injury

Monitoring the physical condition of equipment, tools and machinery and taking necessary precautions to correct as needed

Comply with Occupation Health and Safety standards and practices

a) Education:

i) High School Diploma

ii) WHMIS Certificate an asset

iii) First Aid/CPR Certificate an asset

iv) Building Service Work Certificate an assetb) Experience:

i) 1 - 2 years of related experience.

The Caretaker II will be required to routinely lift items weighting up to 20 lbs. Sometimes, heavier lifting may be required.

Ability to perform medium physical work; regularly

Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment

Pay Rate: $24.15 per hour This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.
