Vacancy Details: 0.5 (permanent position with an end date of June 21, 2024)

The R. Ross Beattie Senior Public School Indigenous Student Advisor (ISA) will assist with leading and implementing programs, services and other supports to meet the unique needs of First Nation, Metis and Inuit students, and their families, with a focus on successful student learning from grade 7 to grade 8. The Indigenous Student Advisor will report directly to the administrative team at R. Ross Beattie Senior Public School and the Indigenous Lead Administrator for District School Board Ontario North East.Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Will establish trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and communities

Will identify and work to remove barriers to student success

Will provide guidance and support to identify pathways based on individualized strengths and interests

Will ensure ongoing open dialogue with families

Will provide access to resources that foster a sense of belonging

Will facilitate access to community supports, course planning and mentorship for students

Will create and enhance a welcoming supportive space for students in various schools with various school staff

Will build close supportive relationships with students, families, and communities

Will act as an advocate for students who identify as Indigenous

Will facilitate strong communication between the schools, families, and First Nation communities

Will assist with developing and/or enhancing cultural activities in the schools

Will build and maintain community partnerships with agencies supporting cultural awareness within our schools (ie., Keepers of the Circle, Mino Mshki-ki, Community Elders and Knowledge Keepers)

Qualifications: Ontario Secondary School Diploma and/or experience

Post-secondary education is an asset (e.g., Educational Assistant, Social Work)

Valid drivers license is required

Demonstrated experience/knowledge of cultural teachings and best practices is requiredSalary as per the current OSSTF - PSSP Collective Agreement Collective Agreements (dsb1.ca)
