The Counsellor provides academic support, enrichment, and social-emotional guidance to students in Grade 7 and 8, works with the Grade 6 class to support transition to the Middle School, and teaches the LINC6, LINC7, and LINC8 classes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the LINCWell team, develop and deliver a wide-range of innovative workshops and learning experiences focusing on academic skill building, integrative thinking, as well as health and wellbeing;
Work collaboratively with Teachers, Heads of School, and the LINCWell team to support students through their middle school years at SCS;
Develop strong, trusting relationships with students and their families;
Work with students, advisors, and faculty to ensure student support plans are implemented and to ensure the necessary academic support and accommodations are provided;
Work in collaboration with our internal school departments for special events;
Full participation and engagement in the life of the School; and
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES OF OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
University degree and Certificate of Qualification and Registration with OCT required;
Guidance and/or Special Education qualifications;
Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively with the middle school learner and families;
Understanding of current research on adolescent mental health and strategies for promoting well-being;
Experience developing individual learning plans;
Demonstrated ability to support classroom teachers in finding effective strategies to differentiate classroom instruction;
Commitment to co-curricular activities, coaching, and full participation in school life;
Knowledge of girls developmental, educational, and social-emotional needs;
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity; and
A clear criminal record check is required as a condition of employment.
