INDIGENOUS SOCIAL WORKER (temporary) Are you an empathetic and caring professional with good judgement looking to join an organization that makes a difference in the lives of so many young people? As an Indigenous Social Worker you would provide therapy to Indigenous students in schools, and consult with schools regarding behavioural management, social-emotional issues, and social skills development. WHAT WE OFFER: Inclusive, high-performing culture;

Ongoing learning and career growth.WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: Provide therapy to Indigenous students with mild to moderate mental health and addiction issues, and youth whose clinical presentation is appropriate for treatment within a school-based setting. This includes scheduling sessions with students and families in your respective area;

Provide psycho-social assessments and develop treatment plans for students;

Liaise with community agencies to ensure effective responses to students and families; and complete community referrals when necessary;

Consult, mediate, advocate and problem solve with principals and school teams about students with mental health concerns; crisis and tragic events and will work cooperatively, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with staff and students;

Support Indigenous students in all schools and programs on a needs basis for grief and bereavement support;

Provide support to students in the Alternative Education Program;

Provide professional development opportunities, as directed;

Carry out other professional duties as assigned by the Manager of Mental Health and Well-being and the Superintendent of Education.WHAT YOU BRING: Masters Degree in Social Work (M.S.W.) or Masters Degree in equivalent area;

Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario;

An Indigenous background;

Knowledge of Indigenous people, barriers and culture;

Demonstrated experience in delivering culturally responsive services to Indigenous students and families;

Three (3) years experience in a community or educational setting an asset;

Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills;

Must possess a valid drivers license and have access to a vehicle.

This is a full-time temporary position.HOURS: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

LOCATION: Catholic Education Centre, Welland, ON with travel as required.

SALARY: $75,498.65 - $83, 887.39 per annum.
