We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic West Vancouver Schools French Immersion Teacher for a two-week summer learning experience designed for Grade 7 students transitioning into Grade 8. This exciting opportunity combines several days of in-class learning engagements and one week of acting as a trip leader/chaperone/teacher for an immersive experience in Quebec City. The teacher will work with students from Ecole Pauline Johnson and Ecole Cedardale, fostering connections and building relationships throughout the program.Responsibilities:
Week 1: In-Class Learning Engagements Plan and deliver engaging, interactive lessons in French that focus on a range of subjects relevant to Grade 7/8 students.
Use inquiry, critical thinking, and collaborative approaches to teaching.
Create an inclusive and welcoming environment that encourages students from different schools to build relationships and work together.
Assess and adapt lessons based on student engagement and understanding. Week 2: Quebec City Immersive Trip Act as the primary chaperone/trip leader during the one-week trip to Quebec City.
Foster a positive group dynamic and build strong connections with students, ensuring their well-being and safety throughout the trip.
Facilitate language immersion by encouraging students to speak French during activities, outings, and excursions.
Coordinate and oversee daily activities, cultural experiences, and excursions that promote language development and cultural understanding.
Manage logistics, communication with students, and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Maintain regular communication with parents, providing updates as needed.
Qualifications: Certified French Immersion teacher with relevant teaching experience (Grade 7/8 preferred)
Strong classroom management skills with the ability to engage students form diverse backgrounds.
Experience in planning and facilitating educational trips or outdoor experiences is an asset.
Ability to build rapport and strong connections with students in a short timeframe.
Enthusiastic about fostering a love for French language and culture in students.
Ability to handle responsibilities of supervising and caring for students during travel.
First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
Ability to travel to Quebec City and stay for the duration of the trip.
Skills & Attributes: Passionate about teaching and providing memorable learning experiences.
Responsible, caring, and relationship focused.
Highly organized, flexible, and able to adapt quickly to changing situations.
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Bilingual (fluent in French and English)
Responsible, dependable, and able to handle the logistics of group travel.
