Under the direction of the SSS Vision Resource Teacher, this position will be trained to support blind and low-vision students. The Vision Resource Teacher would provide the training necessary for this position. This position would involve supporting multiple students at various Whitehorse schools and would require transporting between locationsQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience: Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;

Experience working with youth;

Post-secondary training in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or other related field would be an asset.

Recent experience as an education assistant supporting the implementation of specialized programming would be an asset

Any experience working with blind and low-vision individuals would be an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY: Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;

Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;

Ability to work as a member of a team;

Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;

Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments; CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Security Clearance (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to starting work;

Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months;

Completion of the Educational Assistant Modules by the end of the 2023/24 school year.

If you are a permanent (indeterminate) Educational Assistant in a Yukon school, you will need to seek permission from your Superintendent to apply on this job.
