Experiential Science 11 (ES11) is an academic program with a central science theme. Integrating Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Physical Education, Visual Arts, and Applied Skills, it provides opportunities to extend the positive learning environment within and beyond the classroom and create innovative learning experiences. The challenges of the ES11 program help young people to grow intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and culturally. Field studies focus on science activities, resource management issues, data collection of ongoing research studies, and a variety of student projects. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience

Bachelor of Education or equivalent;

Significant experience and academic training in Biology and Chemistry;

Experience teaching experiential education program at the secondary level;

Teaching experience in a multi-disciplinary approach;

Experience planning, organizing and managing secondary students in integrated studies in an outdoor field setting;

Experience adapting curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities;

Experience implementing Individual Education Plans, Student Learning, and Behavior Plans for students;

Wilderness First Responder Certification, or willingness to obtain prior to the school year would be an asset;

Current Class 4 driver license with the ability to obtain a Class 2 driver license would be an asset;DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their: Strong classroom management, planning and organizational skills;

Willingness and ability to teach all relevant Learning Standards for diverse scientific studies in the context of field studies and foster the experiential learning philosophy;

Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities while incorporating cultural values and traditions into curricular components;

Willingness to work in a flexible and ever-changing experiential learning environment in: field settings, off site facilities and school based classroom;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with students, parents, administration, and other staff members;

Ability to differentiate instruction using current assessment for learning pedagogy and practice;

Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team to promote and work collaboratively to support school initiatives and the total school program;

Ability to work independently and motivate learners;

A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first;

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check.
