We are currently seeking a talented Learning Assistance /Reading Recovery teacher to join the Del Van Gorder School team. Essential Qualifications

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in teaching literacy;

Experience working in a collaborative and professional learning environment;

Experience using a variety of literacy intervention strategies to support students;

Experience providing leadership, case management and instruction as part of a multi-disciplinary school-based team regarding programming for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges;

Demonstrated experience mentoring and coaching teachers with differentiated instructional and behavioural strategies is an asset;

Trained and accredited as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader in good standing considered an asset;

Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population;

Ability to support and integrate self-regulation, mental wellness and trauma informed practices in the classroom and school setting;

A philosophy of inclusive education and ability to adapt, modify and implement curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse group of students;

Training and/or experience in trauma responsive educational practices;

Experience with transition planning and supporting students with exceptional needs;

Ability to use technology as part of teaching, learning and assessment to increase engagement and enhance student learning;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively and effectively with students, staff and the school community;

Willingness to live and work in a small, rural community.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Additional Information

Relocation may be available.
