We are currently seeking a Grade 4 Teacher to join the Golden Horn Elementary School team. GHES is located within the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dn First Nation and Ta'an Kwch'n Council. Essential Qualifications Bachelor of Education

Recent classroom teaching experience and/or Teacher Candidate Practicum experience in intermediate grades.

Experience integrating experiential and project-based learning across the curriculum.

Experience and training in teaching and assessment strategies to support comprehensive literacy and foundational numeracy programming.Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture: Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population.

Experience embedding student-engaged assessment into teaching, learning, and assessment as an integral part of communicating student learning.

Ability to support social-emotional learning, character education, positive well-being, and restorative practices in the classroom and school setting.

Experience with outdoor programming and leading multi-day overnight trips with intermediate students.

Strong classroom management, planning, and organizational skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively and collaboratively with students, staff, and the school community.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment: Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.

To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/ territory first.

Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed within one year.

Additional Information

Candidates who possess qualifications, skills, and personal attributes that are appropriate for the assignment who do not hold a valid teaching certificate, at request, may be granted a letter of permission as a teacher issued in accordance with the Education Act

If you are a permanent (indeterminate) teacher in a Yukon school, you will need to seek permission from your Superintendent to apply on this temporary job
