Computer Technician V (50% Perm and 50% Term)

This is a 12-month 50% ongoing position with an additional 50% term until June 30, 2022. Working under the direction of the School Administrator, the Computer Technician is responsible for administering the computer needs of their assigned school(s) including providing LAN support; acting as the network administrator; providing PC support, desktop publishing, and data and inventory control.The successful incumbent requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal tactfully with all levels of personnel. The incumbent also requires the ability to work independently and as a team member, with minimal instruction or guidance, to cope with constant interruptions, meet deadlines, and to adapt with flexibility in job duties.Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

sets up, maintains and modifies the computer network in school

performs daily administrative tasks

organizes hard drives, creates folders and sub folders, and establishes and maintains security access

troubleshoots, changes and configures hard drives and related problems

installs computer upgrades such as disk drives and RAM, etc, and attaches and configures peripherals such as printers and scanners

performs preventative maintenance

provides technical assistance to teachers and students in the use of various software programs including the internet

provides assistance to staff on the technical capabilities and operation of stand-alone computers and networked computer labs in their schools

liaises with district and divisional computer support staff and service people regarding computer hardware and software problems

maintains school computer inventory (hardware/software)

provides assistance with computer purchases

other duties when requiredQualifications: complete secondary education with extensive computer/software training or equivalent related experience

knowledge of and experience with computer network systems

ability to perform repairs/installations for computer hardware

extensive knowledge and experience using MS Word, and other software packages

experience with PC platforms and development of Web pages

creating and deploying application packages to either work stations or user groups

knowledge and experience in converting from NT to Novell

familiarity and experience with imaging processes

familiarity and understanding of wireless access configuration and security issues
